About OkoaSkin
We built OkoaSkin because every existing ingredient checker felt like it was either selling something, scaring people into replacing their routine, or hiding behind a paywall. We wanted a clean, honest tool you could open in a drugstore aisle - and trust.
What this tool does
Paste an ingredient list or snap a photo of a product label and we will identify every ingredient, match it to our reviewed database, rate each one on a five-tier scale, and highlight flags that matter - fragrance, drying alcohol, pore-clogging risk, fungal-acne triggers, EU-declared allergens, and more. We will never invent an ingredient or fabricate a rating; if something is not in our database, we say so explicitly.
How we rate ingredients
Every ingredient is reviewed against peer-reviewed cosmetic science literature, the CIR (Cosmetic Ingredient Review) safety assessments, published comedogenicity and irritancy data, and - where relevant - the ISDIN and EWG safety databases. Ratings are calibrated against Paula's Choice Beautypedia and adjusted where primary literature disagrees. Brief descriptions are drafted with AI assistance and then edited by a human before publication; vendor-supplied marketing claims are never used as a source. See our full methodology for scoring details.
What we are not
We are not dermatologists. This site is informational - not medical advice. Ingredient safety is highly individual: a well-tolerated ingredient for most people may still trigger a reaction for you. If you are managing a skin condition, are pregnant or nursing, or react unpredictably to products, please consult a licensed dermatologist before acting on information from this site.
Privacy and data
We store analyses so you can share a link with a friend or revisit your own results, but we do not require sign-up, we do not track you across the web, and we do not sell or share the data with advertisers. See our privacy policy for specifics.
Feedback welcome
Spotted an ingredient we're missing, or disagree with a rating? Tell us. Our ratings are living documents - we update them as new evidence appears, and your feedback helps us catch gaps faster than we could on our own.
